For the believer who keeps one dated thing in a drawer and has never told anybody what it cost.
Picture a kitchen table with two small rectangles of plastic and print on it.
The first is a hospital wristband gone the yellow color old paper goes after years in a drawer beside cough drops, loose buttons and a spare key nobody can place. The plastic has curled in on itself. The clasp still fastens. A hospital name runs along the top, and underneath it, in tiny type, sits a date.
The second is a page printed off a journal website, still warm from the printer, with a different date on it.
Your own version of the first thing may be a wristband, or a folded appointment card, or nothing at all except a month you cannot hear named without your shoulders changing. You know which month. You've never said it out loud to anybody, because saying it out loud would turn it into an accusation, and you have no plan to accuse God of anything.
You are allowed to set your date and His together on one table without deciding anything today. Said plainly, with no picture on it: what happened in your month is not God's last word on what He is doing now. The Holy Spirit is not waiting for you to explain your worst year before He will come near it. Scripture keeps the living Christ in the present tense over every year you have actually lived, that one included.

Two Dates on One Table
Your date is not on trial here. Let me settle that first, because a lot of pages about this subject quietly put it there.
Whatever that month holds, it holds. Maybe it marks an answer you were given and still cannot quite believe you were given. Maybe it marks the week your family found out how slowly a waiting room clock moves. Maybe it marks something that never came right at all, and you have been walking around a hole in the floor ever since, stepping over it so easily that you forget other people don't have to.
None of that is evidence about God's willingness. It is evidence about what you have carried.
You are not holding a verdict from God, you are holding a memory. Nowhere does Scripture give your history authority over His character. The Holy Spirit keeps those two in separate drawers on the days when you cannot tell them apart.
I want to be careful here, because there is a version of this message that hurries past your month to get to its point. That version treats your grief as something in the way. Whatever else this page does, it will not do that to you.
Why a Recent Date Stings
Here is the odd part, and you may have noticed it in yourself already.
You have never doubted the accounts in the Bible. Not once. A roof opened, a hand stretched out, a paralyzed man walking home carrying the mat he arrived on, and none of it troubles you in the slightest. You would defend every line of it.
Then somebody names something dated inside your own lifetime and everything tightens.
That reaction is worth understanding rather than scolding. A first-century account asks nothing of you. It is finished, it is settled, and it is safely out of reach of your drawer. A recent date is different. A recent date puts the question back inside the same stretch of years your own month sits in, and once it's there, the old shelf no longer holds it.
You are not being ambushed, and you are not being asked to defend your worst year. The Holy Spirit has more tenderness toward that month of yours than anyone has ever shown you about it. A bruised believer is never an obstacle in Scripture, and is nowhere treated as one.
So we go slowly. One record, at its own size. Nothing that touches your date, nothing that explains it, nothing that turns it into a lesson.
I should say too what you are not being handed. This is not an argument you have to win on somebody else's terms, and it is not a position you need to defend at the next table you sit down at. Nobody has to hear about this. Whatever moves in you can move quietly, over weeks, with no announcement attached to it at all.
Your Drawer Is Not a Museum
Something happens to a subject once it carries a recent date on it. It stops being history and starts being now.
History sits still. It lets you visit it on your own terms, the way you visit the accounts you have loved since childhood. A date from this decade will not sit still. It lands in the same stretch of years your own month lands in, and it will not go in the drawer with the buttons and the spare key.
That is the whole difference between He did and He does, and it is not an argument. Nobody is asking you to be talked into anything.
> Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. > Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)
Notice that the verse never mentions evidence. It was true before that paper was written, and it stays true if the paper is one day set aside, because the sameness belongs to Christ rather than to any record about Him. The paper did not make His today. It just made it much harder for you to leave today empty.
You are living inside Christ's today, not visiting His yesterday as a guest. The Holy Spirit is holding that open in front of you this afternoon, and pushing no outcome through it. Scripture lays His unchanging life across the week you are standing in, not only across the pages you have loved since childhood.
Your month stays yours. Nothing on this page re-reads it, grades it, or asks you to pretend it was secretly fine. It was not fine. You are simply allowed to stop treating it as the last word God ever spoke on the subject.
Declare this over yourself
You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.
You are not setting your month on the table to be judged, and you are not building anything with the lines below. Christ made you His long before that wristband was printed, and that is the whole of the standing you speak from. The words ask, and they arrange nothing. They name no outcome and set no date, because the answering has always belonged to God.
I am not keeping God in a drawer with the rest of what is finished, and I am not reading about a Jesus who has moved on. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever, and Scripture says that over the date I have carried privately for years. My memory is not a verdict on what He is doing now, because the Holy Spirit has never told me that my hardest year settled the question. That wristband stays exactly where it is, and it does not get to speak for God any longer. I hold the crossing open with an empty hand, without pressure and without any promise I was never given. The timing is His, and I am not holding a stopwatch over it. I keep asking, and my hand stays open.
